[Philmont]: Backpack storage for plane travel

To make a very long story short (and maybe help someone else out), I think
we stumbled into a very good solution in August '02. We flew American and
they had very large, heavy-duty plastic bags that the packs slid into
nicely, and then we duck-taped them closed. This ended up being quite easy
and was very acceptable to the airline (it was their bag). Things were
crazy at that moment in time but if I recall correctly, I think they even
required us to use these bags. Call your airline and see if they have these
available. If they don't actually have them, just ask them if that would be
acceptable and then obtain them on your own ahead of time. This ended up
being easy. What was not easy was all the ideas and effort I and some of
our crew went through trying to come up with the best way and then being
handed these bags anyway by the check-in person behind the American counter
(and also almost missing the baggage check-in cutoff!!). Good luck.

"Does everyone agree duffle bags are best for airline travel? Any thoughts?
