Waynes otherwise excellent post had this bit of a flaw...
There is lots to be seen from the West of Philmont.
From WEst to east:
California:
Route 66 museum in Barstow and drives along sections of Route 66
Pisgah Crater/Pisgah Lava tubes (near Barstow)
Mitchell Caverns (Mojave, near Needles)
Arizona
Grand Canyon Caverns (near Kingman)
The grand canyonMeteor Crater
Wupatki/Sunset Crater
Petrified Forest
Painted Desert
Grand falls of the LIttle Colorado
New Mexico
Four corners (okay, not much to see, I'll grant that one)
Shiprock
Taos
Santa Fe
Petroglyph National Monument
Albuquerque
Fort Union
And that is just a sample... There are a bunch more I could mention
Shoot, you pass through the southern part of the Grand Circle, what more
can a scout ask? Take a more northerly route (Las Vegas, Zion, Moab, Chaco
Canyon, it's endless)
