I agree that Treking Poles are a must have. I've been able to
walk-off minor knee injuries with poles. Otherwise, I would have
not completed the trip.
Others have heard my second opinion, sorry to be repetitive: If
poles are "a must," it seems foolish to use them with your dining
fly. As you see from the list, many do. I consider it too risky a
use. I see too many folks in awkward positions under the fly. We
broke one (over extended it) during 2000.
My perspective: If poles are necessary, preserve them. If they are
not, leave them home. I bring light weight segmented 6' aluminum
poles for my fly. It gives me plenty of room when we need it, but
adjust down quickly in the wind. Treking poles stay next to my
pack:-)
