Greetings to All.

Another possible gift idea is the inaugural album by "The Rifters",
which includes Rod Taylor. I picked this up last week, after seeing it
advertised both in "High Country" and on the Tooth of Time Traders
website. Although not a Philmont album per se, if you enjoy Rod
Taylor's singing I would guess you'd like this compilation as well. The
musicianship is excellent, and very versatile. It includes a studio
version of "Edge of Texas", which is interesting (though I frankly
prefer the live version off the "Live at the Tooth" CD). Of additional
note is a excellent original ballad by Don Richmond: "The Ballad of
B.F. Vance" which IMO has the potential to be a Philmont classic. It
has kind of a Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) sound. Although it relays a
story that takes place in the Sangre de Cristos in southern Colorado,
for those of you who have ever come across (and recognized) the various
lost gravesites on the Ranch, and know the history of strife associated
with their presence, it may have a special poignancy. [I have already
learned how to play it.] "Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring" (a "swing"
song) is an unexpected surprise. Another song "I Can't Stand to See Us
Cry" has a distinct John Prine flavor.

The album can be purchased through the Tooth of Time Traders, or through
the Rifters website, www.rifters.net Enjoy.

I have no financial interest, etc., etc.
