In regards to the altimeter watch for Philmont; I wore a watch from
HighGear. It had time, compass, barometer, altimeter, temperature, stop watch
capabilities. It was fun to keep track of our elevation, and sort of track the
weather conditions approaching. I say "sort of" because that feature was probably
the least accurate of all the function capabilities. Our trip last summer was
fairly easy to predict weatherwise, as it rained every single day with the
exception of our last day. We pretty much counted on rain each day and prepared
our daily hike with that likelyhood. I bought a watch with similar functions
a couple of years ago out of a magazine for about $50.00. I found it to be
very unreliable, even the time had to constantly corrected about once every 2
months. My point is, I suggest that if you are serious about the information
the watch is to provide, consider buying one with a reliable reputation with
the outdoor adventurers. The better ones will start at about $140.00 at your
outdoor outlets ie. Cabela's, Dick's Sporting Goods, etc..
