MessageI couldn't agree more with what Rice said. The four summers I spent
working at Philmont were the best of my life. The last summer I worked
there was 2000 and I still regularly keep in touch with a number of the
friends that I made while working out there. In fact, next week I am
heading out to go visit one of them in the Chicago area (he was one of my
campers in 1999 and we became good friends when he came back out to work
there the next summer. I ran into him this past summer when I was on a trek
and he was working at Cypher's Mine) and then another one in Colorado. As
far as summer jobs go, you can't beat working at Philmont. The
administration has made a great effort to attract and retain a quality staff
(when I started in 1997, the starting pay was around $500). The memories
and friendships will last a lifetime...
I'm sure if anyone has questions about working at Philmont, Rice, myself or
any of the other current or fomer Philstaffers on this board will be more
than happy to answer them.

Remember, Philmont only employs the best. Applicants MUST be 18 years old
on the first day of employment. Pay starts at ~$800/month and includes room
and board. However, the *real* compensation lies in the experience of a
lifetime. Many, many of my personal life-long friends are those with whom I
worked under the azure skies of New Mexico.
