[Philmont]: school summer vacation

From: Troop 681 scout <troop681@hotmail.com>

We get out June 21st this year and start up again on Aug 25th. The summer
keeps getting squeezed smaller........

To save $$$$, last year my district had a full week vacation at
Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week in Feb,and 1 week in April.
California state gov pays per student--per day, and with a day off here and
there, parents were taking kids out to make long weekends for ski trips,
etc, and and the district lost alot of money.

Last year My district saved over $300,000 with this school calendar, only
problems---- scouts who have to take summer school get NO summer vacation at
all (or scout camp or family vacations) , dates for Philmont (etc) are
limited, and there isn't much time to have a couple troop summer backpacks.
HECK, the Sierras a right HERE and there's not much time to enjoy
them................
