I believe that is how we mean it. Unfortunately, by defining God as "God", I think that those on the outside see this as a strict adherence to the Judea-Christian definition. By adding the word "my" we state what we want everybody to believe -- as you so well stated.
Of course, there are those that will not stop until either 1) we remove all references to God / any God / Deity / etc... or 2) we no longer exist outside of a church sponsored Sunday evening program for church members. We can't back down from these people and we MUST stop compromising our position away.
