RE: [Philmont]: Polar Pure

I believe the waiting period for the chlorine-based tablet was about as long
as the Polar Pure. It takes time to kill the bugs. A trip to REI will
give you more information that you'll ever want to know as they have most of
the different ways to purify sitting on their shelves. You can read the
directions on them all for free. Once Philmont decides what they want to
provide, then you can decide what you will use for your purification needs.

We spent a ton of time discussing the filter vs. chemical purifiers last
year before we went, only to discover, while on the trail, that it was less
effort to chemically treat, and so everyone favored that. However, we had
filters and used them for "on the trail" purification when the need arose.

I had heard that they were going to go with bleach of some sort (staff camps
and rangers have been using it for years - I was introduced to it in 2001 by
a ranger) it's something like 12 or 16 drops per gallon of water and stir
for 60 seconds. Can anyone confirm this or help out with the correct drops
per liter or gallon???

I've heard Polar Pure is not an option this summer. Does that mean we have
to bring our own, or are they gonna even allow it brought in?
