The difference between both belts is very noticeable. The hand-tooled belt
is stitched top and bottom and appears more "professional" than the stamped
belt. I like them both and own both, but I wear the han-tooled belt most
often with the uniform.
I suggest that you place a call to the tooth of time traders. Check the
website for telephone number. They can answer your questions.

Subject: [Philmont]: Philmont Leather belts, TOT brass buckle, and Arrowhead
patch
I got my Philmont leather belt and Tooth-of-Time brass buckle while at
Philmont years ago as a kid. Now I am an adult Scouter and would like to
proudly wear my Philmont belt and buckle. Unfortunately, I am rather large
now and the belt no longer first. The Philmont belts offered by
Tooth-of-Time Traders only go up to size 50, for the standard $20
"Traditional Philmont hand-stamped leather belt" which is "made by the Bowen
family". There is also a "hand-tooled" (What's the differenc between
hand-tooled and hand-stamped?) belt for $45 which is "made by a local
Cimarron saddle maker", but they only go up to size 46, which isn't even in
stock at the moment.
Does anyone know if either the "Bowen family" or the "Cimarron saddle maker"
take orders for custom length belts? How can I contact either of them
directly? I get nothing related when I google "Bowen family" and "Philmont"
and/or "belts".
Also, I have heard that the current brass TOT buckle is not on a par with
the older ones. Is this true, and if so, what are the differences? Does that
make my older buckle (1970's vintage) collectable? The photo of the new one
looks just like I remember my old buckle (now where DID I put that thing?)
Finally, I plan to wear my Arrowhead patch on my shirt, but would like to
get a duplicate. However TOT Traders does not sell these. Can you buy extras
from Philmont directly? How would one go about getting a replacement?
Thanks!
