Bunches and you'll get the same answers that you've already heard. Some
adamant about the shocks and others (like me) who do not like the mushy
feel of poles with shocks.

Suggestion: find a place that rents poles and try them with and without
the shocks. Or borrow somone's poles - but don't feel hurt if noone
will loan their poles. I and some other folks I know will loan regular
gear readily but guard our backpacking gear against any possibility of
misuse.
