Well, I don't know about Philadelphia, but our version of medium high
adventure includes (among other things):
- Caving
- SCUBA (crew only)
- Snorkeling
- Peak bagging (you *do* have peaks in those little humps you call mountains
out that way, right?)
- Backpacks combined with geocaching
- 3-5 day backpacks
- Whitewater rafting/long term canoeing
- Any kind of international trip (okay, not so medium)
- Involved service projects (as opposed to a couple hours clean up)
- Snow camping including building and sleeping in shelters (that *is* a very
high adventure for us :-)

For us, high adventure is more getting the boys minds into thinking in terms
of adventure than just doing things like mini-Philmonts. If the lads have a
variety of interesting high adventure to choose from, they are much more
receptive to a major high adventure outing like Philmont.
