Last week as my son was getting ready for his Eagle Scout Board of
Review, for about 72 hours, we thought that he had lost his Philmont
patch. I was willing to loan my patch to him to wear for the BOR, but
he insisted that he had to find HIS and asked, "Dad, what if I've really
lost it? What can I do?" Fortunately, a deeper dig, down to the
Cretaceous layer, of his desk drawer yielded his arrowhead patch so he
wore his own to the board, and I wore mine.

I'm sure there is a way to get a replacement patch that avoids going on
Ebay. It'd be great to share with this community what that procedure is
so we don't panic the next time it's misplaced. Actually, I hope it is
a kind of difficult process because if it was too easy one might be
tempted to be overly-casual with that precious arrowhead.

Mike-

I find the concept of selling or trading a Philmont trek patch so
repulsive I can't even entertain the thought.

I consider it a breach of Scout ethics and morals for anyone to ever
sell or trade a Philmont trek patch that was earned by the sweat of
one's brow.

Trek patches should never get into the hands of traders. One would hope
these patches would be so meaningful to the original owner that they
would never leave the possession of that Scout or Scouter. In the event
of their death I would hope the patch would find an honored and
respected home where it could be appreciated by those in Scouting, and
certainly not among a collection meant to be wheeled and dealed.

Sorry, but that's how I feel.

YiS,

Earl Owens

Hi Earl,

you know anyone who wants to sell or trade their Y2K arrowhead patch? I
am looking for Philmont patches for my collection and I have duplicates
to trade or if you want to sell and get Christmas $, let me know.

Thanks, Mike Marchese
