Re: [Philmont]: Philmont Patches for Sale

At the risk of being called a bad example, I'll put my opinion in.

I'd sell my Philmont, NOAC, whatever patches for the right price. I don't
make much money. One of the things that brings me the most joy in the world
is bicycling. My lack of disposable income is beginning to interfere with my
ability to ride (which in turn effects my happiness) as my bike is getting
worn out. A new bike would bring me much more joy than some old patches
sitting around collecting dust. Its all about YOUR priorities. I don't need
patches to remind me of Philmont. I have phriends, pictures, memories, all
kinds of things that remind me of the joy that Philmont brought to me.

And I certainly don't need the prestige / ego boosting of wearing around my
Philmont paraphanalia. Being a Ranger, the ideal of humle pride was pounded
into who I am. I wear one of my Philmont staff arrowheads on my uniform in
hopes that someone else sees it and we can strike up a conversation about
HOmE. I wear my Ranger patch on my backpack in hopes to find another Ranger
so we can rehash old memories. What is fun is when people see it and say
"Hey, I've heard about that Philmont place. I know such and such that went
there".

I don't see where I can be critisized for doing what makes ME happy. To tell
you the truth, I hope other people don't sell their patches, so mine will be
in higher demand (law of supply and demand). I wouldn't sell my patches for
a bargain rate, because I know how much I put into getting them and how rare
they actually are.

That being said, I used to feel the complete opposite about selling my
Philmont stuff. I thought it was completely wrong if someone, especially
another Ranger, sold their patch. I used to tell my crews that I wouldn't
sell my Philmont patches unless I needed the money for a life saving
operation. I have since learned that there are bigger things in life than
Philmont.

My time at Philmont will always be important to me. It was essential in
shaping who I am today. Now I must continue to move forward.

Y'all have a blessed Christmas!
