All of the replies have been helpful.
You're 100% right about the large pile of stuff! I can see
why some groups practice 'stripping the meals'; there
seemed to be a fair amount of wasted packaging.
I was also surprised to see so many cans. Last year we
spent a week at NT and I don't think we had more than a
couple of cans the whole week. They seemed to favor foil
pouches for the meats (either MRE's or some of the
commercial alternatives).
