Greetings and Happy New Year,
I knew that Philmont was changing some of the itineraries, but I didn't
know that they were moving camps too. <VERY big grin! and no flames
intended >
For those on the list that are following this thread with much interest
in the quest for knowledge, I think Pete meant to say Abreu, not Aqua
Fria. That's where the Mexican Homestead, cantina and adobe brick
making program is listed. Aqua Fria is a trail camp and therefore
doesn't have a program on-site. To get to Agua Fria on the first day
would be one heck of a hike.
Happy Trails,
Roy Fisher
The cantina and Mexican homestead at Agua Fria was our first stop on
trek 12. The kids had a great time making adobe bricks, catching the
chickens and drinking rootbeer and eating hot pickles (much to there
regret later). That night the highlight of the day was milking the
goats and then doing 'shots' of milk right from the teet. This was
followed by shots on the rocks and then chocolate shots on the rocks
(you gotta do it to understand). The guys were whopping it up and put
this down as one of the top two highlights. The other was fish camp
where they tied their own flies and six of the nine then caught fish on
them!!!
YIS,
