[philmont] Tents

My crew used the REI half domes on our 2004 trek, and hope to be using
the same tents during our 2008 one. They've held up very well. I've
had two sets of shock cords restrung, but given the use these tents
have seen since they were purchased (mostly used at their attic sales),
the three buck cost to re-shock cord was minor. The tents are
freestanding, so we used minimal spikes.

The new REI quarter domes are also great. A little smaller for two
hulking guys, but worked fine for one mom and daughter. We had an
uneven crew size so I used mine solo.

  For a troop tent I'd wholehearted recommend the ALPs Taurus II
www.scoutdirect.com for purchase www.alpsmountaineering.com for
information, these performed well for us (photos for our 2006 trek at
www.troop6bsa.org) and, frankly at $88 per in the aluminum pole version
you can't best them for value or cost.  Weight 5#12 for 2
  
  For a personal tent I'd probably be looking at the REL Half Dome (REI
item Item 728308) at 5# 1for two
  
  In general Philmont discourages single person tents, although they are
obviously an option for odd numbered crews, and prohibits Bivys.

  Any recommendations on lightweight backpacking tents? I have used
Philtents in the past but would like to consider purchasing a tent that
is around 4lbs or less.    I am considering the MSR Hubba Hubba or
