One way to make tent pegs lighter is to "roll your own". If you have stiff
wire you can cut off lengths to make the pegs of the length you need.
Fashion the ends you will handle into a
small trianglular shape so you can grasp and push the stake in. You want
wire of sufficient diameter
so that the "peg" will hold its shape and not buckle when you push it in.
This will work except for
the hardest ground.
John is absolutely right. If it is heavy (and everything is to some extent)
then consider leaving it home. Only take those things which are essential.
Backpacking teaches valuable lessons for everyday life. You must consider
the weight of things you work with in any trade or profession. It takes
energy to move any object and energy costs money and time. Backpacking
teaches this life lesson particularly well.
