Yes. Boots have to be comfortable. Check them out before you buy them.
Check them out in shake down hikes. Check out the socks you are going
to use with them.
Notice I'm not suggesting any particular brand. In my experience the most
important factor is to check out the actual pair of boots you are going to
use with the socks you are going to use for fit and ankle support. The
reason you have to check them out in shakedown trips - this is the only
way to know how they are going to work hiking. Be sure the shakedown
covers some grades, too, both up and downhill, as you will run into plenty
of those at Philmont.
