[philmont] Recommendations on Boots

Here is my two cents. We were crew 617-G6 in '07.

I'm a little heavy but way under the weight maximum for my height during the trek. Also I have a very wide foot after foot surgery a couple years ago. I blew out my lightweight Dunham boots about 90 days before the trek and the only boots I could find that were comfortable were a mid-weight pair of Asolo leather hiking boots. I was bummed about loosing lightweight and having to settle for mid-weight boots.

However . . . about half way through our trek I realized that I loved the heavier boots. We were definitely on some trails with rocks the size of softballs . . .

Again, I'm a little heavy.

The boys that were itty bitty and skinny wore very light weight boots and did great.

So I guess it all depends . . .
