Jim:
I will offer a bit of a minority position on boots. IF you are committed to getting your pack weight down as low as possible, you may be able to do with less in the way of boots. I hiked one of the "strenous" treks this past summer (T27) in a pair of low-cut Keen Targhee shoes. The sole of the shoe was thick enough to protect from rocks and I really didn't need the ankle support. The low cut shoes allowed me to scramble on rocks better than a medium cut and also reduced the weight.
One of the keys to my good experience was good selection of socks. I wore micro-cut Smartwool socks. I think they were called "Adrenaline" socks. Because they weighed next to nothing, I took three pair, which meant that I could change out several times during the day, and they were easy to wash. I also took a regular pair of Smartwools but didn't wear them much. The Adrenaline socks have special padding around the toes and that made a huge difference. Although it costs a bit to experiment, I think that it is very important to try several different kinds of socks with the boots that you are wearing so that you can find the type that works best for you. In my case, there was none of this wearing two pair of socks or using sock liners, which, again, cut down on the weight.
Good luck!

I am leading a crew in August of 08.
Any recommendations on boots and footwear from the group?
