[philmont] Boots and Toe Boxes

One tip us flatlanders benefited from was offered by a new DE with many
PhilMiles, including a Rayado trek. When preparing for 617-K3's 2006 adventure
into the Valle Vidal, he gave me a tip that I'm sure helped us.

Doesn't matter what the brand of boots or socks are, you MUST keep your toes
from sliding into the tip of the toe box. In the flat lands we wouldn't
have experienced it during miles of hiking. Only when we encountered changes in
elevation would we have learned this valuable lesson, and then too late, and
maybe never have figured out the solution (see below).

Toes must be free within the toe box. They should NEVER hit the tip of the
boot. This may seem elementary, and the boot may feel real comfortable in
the store or on flat hikes. But when you start downhill with a fully loaded
pack, the problem can quickly become apparent, particularly to overweight, out
of shape advisors ;-)

SOLUTION: When putting on your boots, kick downward hard on the heel to
plant the foot into the rear of the boot. Then lace firmly so the foot can not
travel forward allowing the toes to strike the toe box.
