you can also try different various of tying your boot laces and boot inserts for better support.
 
I wear a High, over the ankle type of boot. I use the first part of a square knot (or bow) right at the ankle, then hook the lace in the hooks above the ankle, but bring the lace over from the TOP to make final bow. I hope that makes sense.
 
Putting the begining of a square knot at the ankle helps to keep my foot in place, and not slide forward. Bringing the lace over from the top at the end helps keep the laces tight. Got these tips from an REI employee when getting ready for my first PHilmont Trek in 1999.
 
I also got custom SUPER Feet boot inserts at REI. This is something that a youth/parent would probably not pay for, but for an Adult, it is a great idea. I have high arches and they made a huge difference.
