[philmont] Recommendations on Boots?

I think what Kim is referring to is the old trick of lacing the boot tight from the toe until you reach the area that would be the end of the laces on a low quarter shoe. sometimes an overhand knot will hoild them in place and sometimes it takes a full blown square knot.

Then the upper half of the lases are laced looser thasn the bottom half.

Here's the next tip that she doesn't use because she referred to tying a bow.

Don't tie the normal bow used by most people in tying shoe laces. Use a square knot without a bow. cut the laces off about 4-5" from the knot and heat seal the ends of the nylon laces. Ths gives you a simple to untie knot with only two loose ends and NO loop. What this also gives you is nothing to snag on a rock or stick or a hook on your boot lacing systemand throw you to the ground as though you had been lassoed. If you haven't experienced this wonderful phenomena then you just haven't lived.

Using a square knot to tie your boot laces is a real neat job and it seldom comes untied, yet is so simple and so easy to untie at the ed of the trail for the day.

Also it's lighter. Only a couple of grams lighter, but yes lighter.
