I would agree with Terry. The trails at Philmont don't really have the growth of grasses & bushes along them where the usefullness of gaiters would be maximized, and if our crew of 12 had to stop any more than twice to get a rock out of a boot, I don't remember it. I'd leave the gaiters at home.

Gaiters can be found at any outdoor retailer, OR (Outdoor Reasearch) makes good ones but so do lots of other folks and some of them at much cheaper prices. Having done lots of backpacking since my first trip to Philmont in 1964 I would say that PSR is one place where I don't need gaiters - the trails are like highways. They are great for snowy/icy/ sandy/ scree trails and I own desert and knee highs but they are just something else to buy and take on the trail. Invest the $ into hiking sticks.
