To John LeBlanc ,
Good luck on your search of a pack board. For fun one day my son and searched for them on e bay. Can't remember what they were going for but they also had Amry manuals and instruction sheets for carrying mortars, etc. In 64 and 65 I taught Camping merit badge and we really had to use the Diamond Hitch to attach Yucca packs to the pack board. Those pack boards were used by most guys at PSR. They have some on display at the Seton Museum, at least they did a couple of years ago.
I do have a 1971 or 72 Kelty D4. I think that's the model number. Time does alter some things. That old pack was great until the foam got hard and then crumbled inside the shoulder pad sleeves. Of course the waist belt can't hold a candle to today's very well designed and comfortable waist belts. Internal packs from those days were terrible. Got to say that good internals and good externals today share lots of features. I am amazed that so many folks have strong opinions and a dislike for externals and really don't have any knowledge or experience - just like folks/kids who say they don't like a certain food but have never tasted it.
