[Philmont] Out of boudain and into SVEA stoves

No surprise, I have a couple of Svea 123's as well. One with the built-in cleaning needle, and one that requires the clumsy hand held needle. Great stove for boiling water and preparing freeze dried food. Pan frying a sirloin, however, gets you a well done spot the size of a half dollar in the middle.

  Bill,

The "auto tip cleaning" model is of later manufacture called the SVEA123R.. On the older "manual" model (SVEA 123), try this. Filter all fuel miticulously with a felt filter funnel like Coleman used to sell. Clean fuel will not stop up the tip like regular wire mesh strained fuel.

As to the hot spot in the middle of the frying pan, make a flame spreader. Get one of the wire gauze swuares with the ceramic (used to be asbestos) centers like you used in Chemistry class eons ago. They are available from science supply houses. Trim it to fit inside the aluminum cup for storage and use it on the burner to disipate or spread the flame and eliminate the hot spot. Works like a charm

Be sure to provide plenty of air circulation so you don't over heat and thus over pressure the fuel tank. It's REAL close to the burner and must be to maintain pressure.

The only thing better than the roar of a Coleman stove is the roar of a SVEA123
