We had had hats made for the trip. They had the Philmont arrow and our expedition number, and we brought an extra one along. The boys all wrote their names on it and gave it to him on our last day with him. He seemed to like it (possibly because it WAS a really cool hat). The day after our ranger left us, we were up the trail from Pueblano working on our cons project and the ranger came hiking by with a buddy--and he was wearing our hat. The boys were thrilled.

Our summer backpacking and cavalcade crews usually take an extra crew
t-shirt for their ranger or wrangler.
If there is time, our crews will usually take their ranger or wrangler to
Simple Simon's for pizza or maybe to the Cimarron Art Gallery for ice
cream.
