The thing about crocs is that you just don't have the foot protection
you may need when you are walking over unfamiliar ground, mainly
because of the open design of the upper part of the shoe. They are
fine in many venues, even at some places at Philmont, but a boot or a
shoe with better all around protection will serve you better. The
name of the game is to get the foot protection that will serve you and
not require you to walk in a constrained and fatigueing way because
you are trying to steer your feet away from what the shoe should be
protecting you from in the first place.
