Cedar Ridge Preserve (formally the Dallas Nature Center) is ideal for day treks of 5-6 miles, more if you double loop. Has some good climbs and drops, about the only thing you miss is the elevation.
The Cross Timbers Trail on Lake Texoma is good for overnights, you can start at either end and get a 4-6 mile hike in for overnights, Water would have to come from the lake, and would have to be treated.
Camp Meisenbach has a few good trails and some good back country camping, Enchanted Rock State Park has some good hiking and backcountry camping, but water would have to be carried.

I'm looking for suggestions for training treks for our troop. We are located in the DFW metroplex area (Little Elm). We are not a backpacking troop (yet) so we need to focus on some of the basics first. I'd like to start with a couple of overnight treks building to multi-night treks. Treks with reliable water supply are preferred. For the overnight treks - we want to stay within a 4-hour radius (ideally) of the metro area.
Thank you in advance for your assistance,
