Scott, although it's a bit far for you, the Good Water trail around
Lake Georgetown isn't completely out of weekend trip range. Now that
it's completed, you can get a 26 mile, reasonably rugged loop in
there. Many a Philmont crew around here has trained there. There's a
map at http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/DocDownload.asp?id=8797
if you like. A bit further, Capitol Area Council's Griffith League
Scout Ranch has around 20 miles of trail on 5000 acres. It isn't
especially hilly but it's a beautiful piece of land. It's just
northeast of Bastrop. See www.bsacac.org for reservations. These are
what we used last year for our trek.
