Ditto Kevin. Also new to this list - my observations jibe w/ yours.
The Scout Law is apparently only advisory to some.

people"

Kevin,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I agree with your point of view.
I'm new to this list but, like you, been more than a little surprised by
some of the entries in light of the scouting basis for the conversation.

Typically I ignore inflammatory email but since I've been
misrepresented I'm responding.

Guess who asked the "dig-bat" question. Me. I'm disappointed
with Dr. Bob's response encouraging that false information and nasty
methods be used on the Philmont list as a way to have good discussions..
But as the moderator and a recognized authority on Philmont Dr. Bob has
that privilege.

Here are my concerns. One, is a person who presents themselves
as an expert and then provides inaccurate information and does so in a
mean manner. I thought a Scout was a friend to all. The result is that
the person looses credibility with me and I don't trust the information
they provide because I don't trust their intent.

What was inaccurate? First, if you go to the canoe list you will
find that Mr. LeBlanc was not removed by the moderator. But on this list
he claims he was removed from the canoe list.

Second, the information that Mr. LeBlanc represents in his note
below concerning my posting and question is inaccurate. My question to
the canoe list was about how to turn the trek planning, as much as
possible, over to Scouts who are going on 13 and are not yet 16 or 17
years old. Instead of responding to the question Mr. LeBlanc attacked me
because in his opinion 12 & 13 year old Scouts should only do weekend
campouts. I have received 7 emails privately with encouragement and
great suggestions and guidance, but these Scouters choose not to respond
to the list because of the vehemence from Mr. LeBlanc. Several other
Scouts responded positively on the list.

Another concern is why have a moderated list if the moderator
doesn't moderate. Expressions such as Mr. LeBlanc's, " . . . dig-bat
inquiry . . . " and, ". . . sanctimonious self appointed God . . . " are
not only hurtful and inflammatory but contrary to our Scout Law because
they are unhelpful, unfriendly, and unkind.

I belong to both the Philmont list and the Canoe list and will
continue to do so because after I weed through the nasty responses from
the self-appointed experts there are usually a few good pieces of good
information that make it worth my while. And now and then I get a good
laugh.

Trying not to take myself too seriously, I am

        Kevin Aldrich, only a Dig-Bat
