See how things work out during the training. You have plenty of time this
summer to figure out the group dynamics.
I have another comment however.
You said you have a total of 10 scouts and 2 trecks. Those who are on the
waiting list must be wondering why not give one of the trecks back and
allow more boys to participate?

We are planning for 2 crews in 2003 - one will have scouts who are very
experienced backpackers going on a more strenuous hike. The other crew
would be for our less experienced backpackers, doing a moderate hike. We
will have 10 total scouts, 9 of which will be 16 and 17 years old and 1 who
will barely meet the minimum age requirements. Does anyone have any
experience with a single young scout with an older scout crew? I don't
want this to be a bad experience for him and I am sure that he will be able
to handle the physical requirements, but I wonder about the emotional
requirements of spending 13 days with scouts who are quite a bit older than
him. He does have an older brother so he might be just fine. I'd just be
interested to hear if anyone had a similar situation and how it went.
