For those who have never been to Philmont you can see from the responses to
the question of bathing or swimming at Philmont that water is a precious
commodity. I see from a few responses the mention of a wash basin to clean
up and to rinse clothes, the best place to do this is in the area of the
sump pipe. Your Ranger will point out this vital part of your campsite and
instruct the crew on the proper use of it. By pouring the water into the
sump you are allowing natures filtration system to clean the water before it
returns to the streams. I believe on response said "enjoy your showers",
there are a few staffed camps on the ranch that have showers in the
backcountry, depending on water supply. Take full advantage of these when
you can.
