Good question - the answer is generally not. Bugs, in my experience,
are quite rare at Philmont and do not present a problem. One notable
exception is the area around the Stockade/Lover's Leap Turnaround, which
can be a haven for mosquitoes during the summer months. You may also
see some flies at the lower elevations (Abreu is one camp that comes to
mind), but nothing to be concerned about.
