Jeff, if you go to Selden's Philmont pages, you can find several listings of
map coordinates from folks who have been there. Print them out, & then
armed with the list, to to www.topozone.com & type in the coordinates for
whichever format you choose to use: UTM or Lat/Lon

The maps at topozone are USGS maps & will show most of the features that the
PHilmont section maps do. You can then easier locate the places on the PHil
maps in front of you.

While I can understand your frustration of having to hunt to find things
because we've all had that learning curve, in my personal experience that
has been a great way to "learn the ranch" as well. If you are persistent in
looking for things, you begin to learn where different places are in
relationship to others. That will give you a much better sense of where you
are once you are on the trails too.

To further sharpen your location-awareness skills, practice moving around
with the maps on topozone. See what lies to the N, S, E & W of where you
are. Don't get frustrated, don't try for a quick fix & have fun with it !!
