Not to be a contrarian, but I have use a bamboo walking staff for 5 treks
('93 - 01). Very useful in other ways (dinning fly pole, water bottle
carrier, etc.). Other adult, in our sister crew in '01, used poles and
swears by them. To each his/her own. I'll keep my staff!
