Your conservation location will be assigned to you when you go thru
logistics. You might have a choice of locations, or you may not, depending
on the projects that Philmont is working on & the trek you are on....

While Logistics will inform you as to where 'formal' Conservation projects
will be available, another option is to 'find' an informal one. Clearly, if
everyone did this, it would be a problem for Philmont. However, if your
scheduled project makes for a very long day, missing program, or creates
some similar logistical situation for your crew, you may be able to arrange
a substitute project at a Staffed Camp (it needs to be signed off on the
Crew Leader's copy of your itinerary, so you can't just make one up on your
own). Absent compelling reasons, I would recommend sticking to the
scheduled projects, but I am pointing out that there is another option.
