Not all rangers will do so, however.  Our ranger this past summer (we were his very first crew on 6/11) didn't.  I took him aside and asked him if he were going to introduce T&R and he said he didn't really like it.  I asked him to do it anyway and (I think) the crew got benefit from the gathering and sharing every evening.

There were a couple of nights that a few crew members had collapsed into their tents before T&R and the crew leader had to browbeat them into crawling back out for a few minutes.  So, I'd suggest that having the crew leader (or whole crew) decide/announce on the time of T&R in advance would be the only enhancement I could suggest.

Please let your Ranger bring this up when you are on the trek. It is part of
the Ranger Training for the first day on the trail. Feel free to use it on
your shakedown hikes though.
