[Philmont]: crew slot payments

Another thought on this issue is how crews handle their payments
from their individual members. In my opinion crew fees should be
paid in full by individual members prior to the Philmont payment
deadlines. From my experience, crew members who have already
made their full payments do not drop. The ones who drop are
always the ones you have not made a financial commitment to go.
In our troop we have a payment schedule where our crew members
starting making payments this January and will have paid in full by
December. Our trek is for 2004.
I observed this problem when I served as Tour Leader for our
Council in 98 & 00. Each time the week before we left we had
youth to drop from the contingent. To my horror when I inquired to
the Council on the payment status on these individuals not one of
them had been paid in full and in most cases had only made the
initial deposit.
Collect you Philmont fees in advance and you will not have to worry
about members dropping out.
