We try to give certain responsibilities to each adult to spread the
knowledge. We might have one oversee and advise at food pickup. Another
monitors the fuel supply and purchase, and another equipment issue and
return. Of course administration checking in and checking out. This gives
everyone a little something and no one lead advisor harnessed with
everything.
Diane you are asking excellent questions and in a very timely manner, you
are also asking one of the largest knowledge bases on Philmont here. As Dr
Bob Klein said of this list, "Not a topic we touch on too often here,(why is
it that some people hate Philmont) where most everyone (on this list)is
either a Philmont Phanatic or a novice looking for information and advice."
For most people once you drink the Philmont water it is forever in your
blood.
A Philmont trek is a journey, not a destination. Every trek is different,
different people, different weather, different itineraries, different
preparation, and we all have different expectations of what our trek will be
like. It took me 25 years between my first and second trek. On that second
trek August 1991 we had more rainiest weather I have ever seen. I was
determined to savior every minute and not wish away one second of it. Every
time one of the boys said he couldn't wait to get back to base camp I opened
a discussion of why I didn't want it to end. Twelve years later my son
wishes to go back to Philmont and knows exactly what I meant back then.

Question:
Are all adults in a crew called advisors? I thought there was just one
advisor, and the others are simply adult crew members.
