In response to your question. Last summer I was the lead advisor for our
crew and my 16 year old son was the crew leader. I decided very early on
that he was in charge and stood back and let him lead unless there was
something dangerous about to happen. In dealing with the crew I worked
with the other adult advisor and let him (or us jointly) make suggestions,
etc. to avoid the crew feeling like I was biased in my behavior because my
son was in charge. It can be a little tough as a parent to not step in but
if the adults have the right attitude it should work fine....but set the
tempo early on the pre-hikes and planning meetings.

I guess I worded the question incorrectly ? believing that there was only
one advisor, now knowing that person is called the lead advisor. That's the
question ? pros and cons of having the lead advisor be the parent of the
crew leader.
Sorry for the confusion. We would never separate our 8 parents from their
boys. That's the reason for them going ? not because they are Philmont
experts.

Been on the road, so late on this issue. However, I am concerned that
anyone would think that they would have the right/audacity/authority to
separate a father and son or any parent and child in a crew.
