I know the 2003 TREK books are still a couple of weeks away, but trying to
get a bit of a head start. Was wondering if anyone would like to comment
off-list to me concerning pros / cons / considerations for treks #3, #21,
#24, #26 from 2002 trek experiences. This could include your results in
dealing with the burros. Thanks very much!!!
Comments...
I did 21 in 2001 (with a crew not from my troop) while the crew from my
troop did 24. They are similar, and in their pre-2000 versions as 15 and
13 were they most popular treks of all - I have not seen any more recent
statistics to know if that is still the case.
One thing to keep in mind with both of those treks is a long last day
hiking into Base from the vicinity of Clarks Fork.
Just looked at my summary regarding 3 and 26. 3 is looks like a
combination of 21 and 24 without the hike in on Tooth Ridge, and would be
a good fallback with a younger crew. 26 of course is completely different
than the other three, being in the South rather than the North. It does
have the last night at Tooth Ridge, which personally I love as a last
night camp (including the opportunity for sunrise from the Tooth).
Regarding burros, my '01 crew choose them (actually him, since you only
get one heading from Ponil to Miranda) and enjoyed it. One burro takes at
most 50 pounds of crew gear, so it does not make a big difference in your
pack weight those days. _IF_ I had a vote, I'd have gone for Wilson Mesa
and the views.....
My comments on 21 (from last year) are posted at
