You can disagree if you want to, but you are wrong on the first paragraph.
Many, many messages are sent via Morse code today. It is far from dead.
Don't make the mistake of trying to convince knowledgeable people of such or
you will just look,,,,,,,,well, should I just say "not informed".
On the second paragraph, maybe they would be bored. But again, maybe it
would open doors for them toward a rewarding career.
One of the guys I was in Scouts with carried a car battery in his pack to
Scout camp and hundreds of feet of wire and telegraph keys. He and our
Scoutmaster taught many to use Morse code.
I know of two of those guys who are code analyst for a very prestigeous
government agency today. I think they call it the Central Intelligence
Agency. All because of a Scoutmaster who took the time and encouraged his
Scouts rather than say
"I'd rather teach them life skills and how to cook".
Of course he had a much wider field of vision than most. Don't let what you
think or "know" be the limit of your Scouts. Take off the blinders and look
beyond the horizon.
Where did you learn that "life skills" does not include communications
skills?
Of course you are welcome to continue your line of thinking and to disagree
with me all you want to. You won't be the first nor the last.
