[Philmont]: Morse Code

Let me jump up on my soap box a little here.

A friend of mine enjoys paddling solo in Quetico Provencial Park near the BSA
Northern Tier base. His wife, like all good wives, worries while he is out
paddling for weeks at a time alone.

The solution is that he carries a small ham radio that operates on a very
small battery.

She has a similar radio at home.

Each evening in camp, he strings the antennae wire in the trees over his tent
and sets up his less than two pound radio. His medium is Morse Code for with
it he uses very little electricity and a small battery lasts for hundreds of
hours.

At the appointed time, he and she share an evening together, yet thousands of
miles apart tapping out their love song via Morse Code.

This couple has been doing this for many years.

Morse code is far from dead. Very far.

Enjoy the following message in two accepted Morse code formats.

Dadididit Didahdit Didah
Dah Didididit Dit
Dadah Dadadah Didadit Dididit Dit
Dadidit Dadadah Dadidit Dit
Didadah Didah Dadidadah

You might have to print this next one out.

of thE web.

Morse Code isn't the only code. I challenge you forward thinking advisors to
challenge the forward thinking crews to find a new use for code while on the
PhilTrail. Try it, they just might like it.
