While Tevas are generally ruled out in most scout situations, if you are
using them there's a handy trick that I got from a teenage REI salesperson
that really helps prevent stubbed toes. Get them a size or two too large.
This causes the front to stick out beyond your toes a bit, yet you can still
velcro them down to fit tightly. The result is a surprising amount of toe
protection (but they're still open toed shoes).
