In 1959, I took the camp shoe of choice in all BSA camps at that time, the
official BSA hard soled moccasin.

In 2002 I took the equivalent with sewed on rubber soles from WalMart at
about $6.00.

If I go again in 2045, I'll do the same again.

I own and use Tevas, but not in a backpacking camp.

While sitting around on my extra long Carzy Creek watching the grass grow
while the youth went about what youth does in camp, I sat there bare footed
letting my dogs air out, only putting the moccasins on when I took a stroll
in search of the loo.

I even tied the ends of the rawhide laces in the same little barrel like knot
which is a modified hangmans noose with the loop pulled up snug. I was
surprised hiw many youth I had to teach how to tie that one. Those little
knots make the same clack against the toe of the mooccasin just like they
have for all these years.

Some things just don't improve with age. Hard soled moccasins in camp are
one of them.

Nope they won't do in case of a blowout in my hiking boots. I do carry a
spare in the trunk of my car, but not in my backpack.

BTW, Shelly will deliver replacement boots to you on the PhilTrail from TOTT.
