Gee John, this is the exact same lamp we use! Can you believe we use the same anything? Steve.

A head lamp (led) is what we use. This way you have both hands free to do
what ever. The flash light thing we found was you had to hold it in your
mouth (where or in what did you drop it last?) or strap it to your head or
    use your hand.

There are a gazillion headlights. I own half of them. I love headlights and use them often. Coon hunters headlights, miners headlights, even a Justrite carbide headlight.

My all time favorite for a backpacking use (read that use at Philmont) used to find the loo, a sock in the bottom of the pack or tending a sick or injured Scout all night long is the Petzal 3 led headlight called the Tikka. Uses 3 led bulbs and 3 AAA batteries.

Don't even bother taking spare batteries.

You can load it for this year and it will still be burning brightly on those same batteries the next time your troop is eligible to go in two years!

There are others less expensive, but there are none that compare with a Tikka.
