RE: [Philmont]: Clothing material

One of the other adult advisors and I both had them this year at Philmont
and really like them. You can shift weight around on your shoulders some
but the biggest benefit we found was just being able to put our arms up
higher so they aren't just hanging there. They give a good change of pace.
My are the detachable ones with clips that go on the D-rings. The other
advisors pack did not have D-rings on his shoulder straps but we managed to
get the clips around the webbing on the shoulder straps.

One of our adults has them on his backpack and he used them quite often
when hiking uphill. They are maybe 12 inch long straps looped over and
attached to the chest portion of the shoulder straps and enable you to
transfer some of the pack weight to your hands/forearms when you want.
They also give you something to do with your hands. You can also slide
your gloves, hat, bandanna through them to have handy while hiking. His
are permanently attached, but I figured someone must sell some that can
be attached to the D-rings on most shoulder straps. Looked all over REI,
Sunny's and other places and finally spotted them in the Campmor
catalog - couldn't find them online at Campmor. They cost $4.99 so I'm
waiting to purchase until I have a list of other stuff I need.

They have just about everything else too, including wrist
> loops for your backpack that I have been looking everywhere for.

I am not familiar with this - what are wrist loops for backpacks?
