I was adult advisor on our troop's short trek last year. We had an 8 day
trek. The short treks are just like a regular trek except you out for less days.
You do not have the opportunity to hike as far or go to as many programs. We
had the boys decide on the programs that they wanted to do and sent this to
Philmont. Logistics then designed a trek that included these. We started at Turkey
Creek and went to Vaca, Harlan, Hunting lodge, Cyphers Mine, Mt. Phillips,
Phillips junction, Beaubien, Crater Lake, Shaefers Pass, Tooth of Time. Total
was 53 miles. Boys had a great time and got to experience plenty of programs and
challenging hikes. These are great for first time crews and smaller guys. You
can see a journal and some photos from the trip on our website.
